Jarilys Gonzalez, also known as Uma, founder and developer of the entire operation. She presides over the best alternative virtual tutoring program for parents looking for a different and sustainable experience in taking reading comprehension and critical analysis to the next level. Prior to creating “Ask”, Uma's studies are in K-12 Special Education at UAGM University where she served as "President of the Future Educators Association" and had the opportunity to run and encourage students working with educational non-profits and organizations for underprivileged children and foster care. 

Her passions are reading, songwriting and singing, playing guitar, poetry, sports, videography and photography. 

In 2017, she went to work at a private school in Vieques, as they needed help with curriculum. The school had recently been built, and she created a reading and writing program for kindergarten and First Grade. She looked for books and other materials to create a curriculum aligned to the United States.

Hurricane María 

this hurricane brought challenges and changes. Knowing that the school had no power supply, Uma continued to teach using a car battery to which she connected an inverter with a car cigarette lighter adapter and then connected a printer and continued her classes. Parents are grateful to this day. 

In 2018 - 2020, Uma was a 1st grade Bilingual Special Education teacher at a private school in Caguas. She was Founder of the Tutoring Program, at the time called, “Arriba Kids”. In 2019, she won the Teacher of the Year award.

Pandemic

Uma offered homeschooling for two years to 6 children from families who had their children at St. Johns School San Juan, PR. She again managed all the curriculum aligned for them but this time she herself served as a full school offering Math, Science, Spanish, English, Social Studies, and after school activities such as Mindfulness, Coding, Craft class, singing and guitar class, sports such as tennis, basketball, volleyball and basic gymnastics. 

After this experience, Uma is satisfied with her work because all 6 children were enrolled in prestigious schools; two of them passed the grade/course because they were ahead of the requirements for their current grade at that time. 

Currently, Uma works as a virtual ELD (“English as a Second Language”) teacher with immigrant students residing in the United States, Philadelphia, who need reinforcement in math, grammar and reading comprehension in English and Spanish. It is a great success. "Esperanza Cyber Charter School"
