Jarilys González, is the founder and educational program developer behind ASK Stars Tutoring. Her work is rooted in the belief that meaningful learning begins when students become aware of how they think, understand how they learn, and develop the ability to intentionally direct their own learning process.

Through ASK, Jarilys has developed an individualized approach that goes beyond academic reinforcement. She pursued studies in K–12 Special Education at UAGM University, where she served as President of the Future Educators Association. During this time, she had opportunities to lead and encourage future educators while collaborating with educational nonprofit organizations serving underserved children and children in foster care.

These experiences strengthened her interest in understanding how differently students learn and reinforced a principle that would later become central to ASK: education should adapt to the learner, rather than expecting every learner to adapt to the same method.

Teaching Through Hurricane María

In 2017, Jarilys worked at a newly established private school in Vieques, Puerto Rico, where she assisted with curriculum development. She created a reading and writing program for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, researching books, instructional resources, and a full learning program to build a curriculum aligned with educational expectations in the United States. The experience required more than teaching academic content. It required intentionally building an educational pathway around the students needs. When Hurricane María devastated Puerto Rico in 2017, education faced extraordinary obstacles.

With the Vieques school without electrical power, Jarilys found an alternative way to continue teaching. Using a car battery connected to an inverter and a cigarette-lighter adapter, she powered a printer and continued preparing instructional materials for her students.

The circumstances reinforced something that continues to influence her educational philosophy today: Learning does not depend on perfect conditions; it depends on our ability to recognize a challenge, think critically, choose a direction, and intentionally determine the next best steps.

The families she served during this period remain grateful for her commitment to their children's education.

Homeschooling Program

Jarilys offered homeschooling to 6 children from St. Johns School San Juan, PR. She developed and managed an individualized academic program covering: Math, Science, Spanish, English and Social Studies. The program also incorporated enrichment experiences including mindfulness, coding, arts and crafts, singing, guitar, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and introductory gymnastics. Throughout the program, student progress, grades, and academic development were documented and monitored.

At the conclusion of the experience, all six students successfully transitioned into challenging programs from private schools like Baldwin, St. John's and USA Michigan School. Two students were offered to advance academically because their demonstrated skills and knowledge exceeded the expectations of their current grade or course.

Teaching Students Across the United States

For four years, Jarilys worked virtually with students in Philadelphia through Esperanza Cyber Charter School, supporting multilingual and immigrant students in their academic development. Working virtually with students from different linguistic and educational backgrounds further strengthened her understanding that there are no barriers when it comes into learning intentionally. 

The Philosophy Behind ASK

These experiences became the foundation for the educational philosophy that guides ASK today. Jarilys believes that the mind is strong and learning becomes more powerful when students learn to recognize their own thinking patterns. Rather than simply giving students answers, ASK encourages them to ASK intentionally.
